A communications and marketing innovator with more than 30 years’ of experience spanning public and private higher education, Joe Carr has been instrumental in numerous success stories where institutions have achieved defined goals by aligning communications efforts with strategic priorities. By working to establish consensus and fostering collaboration among stakeholders, he has consistently maximized resources to ensure efficient, effective integrated communications efforts.
Joe is currently associate vice president of Providence College’s Division of Marketing and Communications. He leads PC’s efforts to create compelling communications that support the college’s strategic initiatives and inspire its various audiences to take the steps that will help enable PC to reach its aspirational goals. A former award-winning journalist, Joe worked at the University of Maine from 1993 through 2011, serving as director of university relations (a cabinet post in the UMaine management structure) for seven years.
Joe returned to PC, his alma mater, in 2011 as the college’s first assistant vice president for marketing and communications. In that role, he built a new organizational structure and worked with other college leaders to establish integrated marketing and communications structures aimed at helping achieve specific goals associated with the institution’s strategic plan, with emphasis on fostering success in undergraduate admission, fundraising, and alumni engagement.
Joe’s essential expertise relates to persuasive communications, media relations strategies, and the integration of brand messaging into creative expressions in ways that will influence stakeholders, encouraging them to take actions that will help institutions achieve their strategic goals.
In addition to his Providence College bachelor’s degree, Joe earned a master’s in mass communications from Emerson College.
